It’s Still Family History Month!

Here’s my question: what are you doing with your family to observe Family History Month? Family Tree Magazine has a number of ideas on their site, including activities, downloads and book recommendations. ThoughtCo has a number of ideas, among them compiling a family cookbook (we’ve talked about favorite recipes before!); gathering and recording family stories; exploring family health history; field trips to ancestral home sites; scrapbooking; developing a family website; and preserving family photos. Be sure to check out the site for Minnkota Genealogical Society ( http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~minnkota/nfhm.html ) in North Dakota. And, it’s so important to include people of all ages; FamilyLocket.com (http://www.familylocket.com/family-history-for-children-and-teens/) has fun activities for children and teens. So, if you try anything you find here, do let me know how it turned out! See you later!

About Emily Schroeder

Greetings to everyone who’s into genealogy! I’m Emily Schroeder, and I’ve been at Maine State Library since 1980. My latest incarnation has transformed me into the genealogy specialist, which means I get to visit other libraries and do genealogy workshops, have classes onsite, teach adult ed., write newsletters, join genealogy groups, and generally try to keep myself “in the know”. I’m hoping that through this blog we can share ideas, review resources and databases, and maybe introduce something new to readers in the genealogy field. You can always e-mail me at: emily.schroeder@maine.gov.
